The 150,000 SF municipal courthouse project consists generally of a new four-story building plus partial basement. It is constructed of geopier masonry foundations, structure steel framing, and concrete slab on metal deck floor construction. The exterior envelope consists of curtain wall and storefront construction, as well as etched precast masonry wall panels.
The interior of the facility includes courtrooms, judges’ chambers, full kitchen, café, and a variety of municipal services offices. In addition, a bridge is constructed to connect the “MLK” Justice Building to the existing adjacent county’s Hall of Records Building.
The site construction work includes numerous public and private utility tie-ins including additional security redundancies. The project also includes sidewalks, curbing, paving, signage, and striping with a public plaza and promenade consisting of approximately 20,000 SF of custom pavers on the North and West sides. In addition a grand stair and landings of approximately 17,000 SF of granite on the East was installed.
