The Capital Improvement Program and the School Reform Commission have unrolled an extremely aggressive facilities renovation program. With the first phase being completed in December of 2006, Phase 2 is now under way and continuing to combat several key issues:
- Relieve overcrowding and provide the children with new educational opportunities.
- Begin to bring the District’s 315 buildings, of which 71% were constructed in 1953 or earlier, into the 21st century.
- A planned phasing out of middle schools; with conversion of these facilities to small high school and elementary schools.
- Capitalize upon the vast pool of potential work force residing in local zip codes, so that the District gives back to the local community more than just education of our youth.
- Maximize the opportunities for meaningful participation by qualified MBE/WBE.
