The New Mercer County Courthouse will be a four-story, 110,000 square foot facility, designed to relate and compliment the existing historical surroundings. The facility will house eight courtrooms, various hearing rooms, and a special proceedings courtroom for larger trials and grand jury court. Important components such as high level security, a tunnel connection to the existing courthouse and provisions for future connections and phases will also be incorporated. The beginning phase of the project will require demolition of the existing parking garage and detention facility, as well as relocation of the existing steam lines and chilled water lines.
The project will be designed to achieve LEED certification using energy conscious construction methods, including a district heating and cooling system.
