The project consists of the design/build of a Variable Frequency Transformer Facility that will transform 300 MW of electrical power from the 230,000 volt substation in Linden, NJ to 345,000 volt power required for New York City. The power will be transmitted through an existing underground cable from the Linden Cogen Facility. The scope includes the excavation of approximately 30,000 cy of existing soils, backfill with structural aggregate, installation of 325 piles, design and construction of a new three-story structure housing the VFT and auxiliary equipment, stormwater and oily water separator systems, fire protection systems, installation of all equipment and electrical components, and the installation of a 100 ton gantry crane on the roof of the facility.
