The Hudson Transmission Project is a 660 MW electric transmission link between New York City and the PJM grid that commenced construction in May 2011. The project is valued at $700 Million. The converter station will transform Alternating Current (AC) power from the PJM grid to Direct Current (DC), and then back to AC within the same site (called "back-to-back conversion"). The AC-DC-AC conversion allows for the delivery of up to 660 MW of power in a very precisely controlled and reliable manner to serve NYPA's New York City customers. The project requires the installation of eight miles worth of buried transmission cable, including four miles to be installed beneath the Hudson River. Joseph Jingoli & Son, Inc. and Siemens Corp. are the contractors on the project. Construction is scheduled to be completed in late spring 2013.
